Brazils E Cigarette Market

Brazil's E-cigarette Market Surged By 690,000 New Users To A Total Of 2.9 Million New Users

Brazil's e-cigarette market, with 690,000 new users in 2023, has raised the total number of e-cigarette users to 2.9 million, according to Ipec.

Over six years, the proportion of e-cigarettes in the Brazilian population has increased from 0.3% to 1.8%. The use of this type of e-cigarette is impressive in Mato Grosso, where smokers have soared from 1.8% of the population to 4%, increasing by 122% between 2022 and 2023.

Mato Grosso was followed by Goias (107%), Minas Geras (100%) and Parana (32.4%). In Brazil's Federal district, despite an 18 percent reduction, it is still in the highest e-cigarette use area (every 4.5 households have an e-cigarette device).

However, Brazil's National Health Supervision Authority (ANVISA) is considering whether to continue to ban or regulate the e-cigarette market, and a black market has been formed in Brazil due to the strict ban on e-cigarettes.

A study by the Brazilian Federation of Minas Gerais Industry (Fiemg) estimated that the market trades as much as 7.5 billion reais (about 11 million yuan) a year. Most of the goods come from China and Paraguay. In taxes alone, the state has lost 2.2 billion reais, and the industry has created 110,000 jobs.
