Morocco E-cigarette Tariff Increased To 40%

Morocco's Finance and Economic Development Commission has raised taxes on hookah and e-cigarettes. Consumers will have to pay 675 dirhams ($63) per kilogram of shisha leaves. Import tariffs on e-cigarettes and e-liquids will rise from 2.5% to 40%.

E-cigarette sellers in Casablanca's Maarif area have been shocked by the government's tax increases. And said that this decision will have a huge impact on the future of e-cigarettes in Morocco. Economically, this will make it more difficult to sell products. E-cigarettes will become a luxury for some consumers. At the same time, the price of an atomized e-cigarette will increase by 300 dirhams ($24) due to increased duties and tax bases.

Moroccan officials said that the increase in taxes and tariffs "is aimed at protecting the health of consumers, especially young people, and protecting them from the negative effects of consuming and relying on these products".
